Anthony Conte takes his position at the helm to lead us into the future.

Habitat Thousand Islands is extremely happy to announce that Anthony Conte, who recently relocated to Brockville from the Ottawa area and who has been working hard as the Brockville ReStore’s Supervisor for the past few months, has been selected as our new Executive Director.

“On behalf of Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands’ Board of directors, I wish to congratulate and welcome Anthony Conte into the position of Executive Director.” HFHTI Board Chair Bill Spencer says in a warm welcome to our new E.D.

“We believe that Anthony is a fantastic fit with our organization, and we know that his enthusiasm, compassion, and focus on community relationships will allow us to continue to grow our presence all across Leeds and Grenville.

We would also like to extend our thanks to Dawn Cockbain, who has been the backbone of Habitat Thousand Islands in the position of Interim Executive Director.

There is so much that goes on behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly, and Dawn has handled all the stress with the patience of a saint. It’s been a rare pleasure to have worked alongside her for so many years.

The Board and I are very excited about the prospects for the future, and what it means for families who struggle to find affordable and decent housing.”

Dawn also had some very kind words; “I’m pleased to welcome Anthony Conte to the role of Executive Director at HFHTI. I’ve witnessed Anthony in his short time with us take to his supervisor role with passion and commitment, and a strong team-first mentality that I know that carry through into his new roll as Executive Director.

I’ve been in the position of Interim Executive Director on a part-time basis for the last year and a half, and had come to realize that a full-time ED was needed. Since I started with HFHTI almost 8 years ago I’ve seen our organization grow enormously, and I think Anthony is the perfect choice to not only oversee the day to day operations, but with his energy, knowledge and vision, help us grow even further!

I will be staying on to help Anthony transition to his new role, and will then move to other responsibilities within HFHTI.

Please join me in congratulating Anthony on his new position!”

Anthony is truly thankful for Bill and Dawn’s kind sentiments, as well as the support of all the volunteers and staff of HFHTI, and had this to say: “Helping others is truly one of life’s greatest gifts.

I’ve loved every aspect of my career in radio – the connection to community, music, audio, and most importantly, giving back.

One of my favourite aspects of radio was being involved in contests and events that made a difference; Pay It Forward campaigns, community volunteer drives – radio was always there to lift people up.

Now, my career has evolved into a new, community-based role as the Executive Director with Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands, overseeing ReStore operations in Brockville and Kemptville, and supporting our housing builds throughout the Leeds and Grenville counties.

I cannot wait to connect with local business owners, media, volunteers, and municipal partners to form meaningful and lasting community partnerships.

Everyone deserves a decent place to live.”
